I Am Khadi fashion show promotes sustainable textiles in Mumbai

I Am Khadi held a fashion show in Mumbai on October 11 to celebrate the sustainable weave and designs by a number of brands including Tara Bhuyan, Meagan Ollari, and Mantasha Ahmed.

I Am Khadi held “Weaving Peace”, a Khadi showcase, at the World Trade Centre in Mumbai on Thursday and Friday to celebrate the textile and promote it as a patriotic weave. The event celebrated the 150th anniversary year of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth and celebrated his championing of Khadi textiles and garments. 

The fashion show on Friday showcased designs by Tara Bhuyan, American designer Meagan Ollari, and Bangladeshi designer Mantasha Ahmed, all made from Khadi. Designer Kumkum Nongrum presented a “Tribal Showcase” and Archana Kochhar showcased a collection with Ameesha Patel as her showstopper. 

Designers that participated in the buyer seller meet and exhibition included Mrignayanee, Arcana Silk Sarees, and Hariom Khadi Sangh among others. Brands showcased their designs at stalls and held meetings to build their distribution network. 

Guests of honour at the event included the Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari and media personalities including Smita Thackeray, Sudhanshu Pandey, Nisha Jamvwal, and Dolly Thakore amongst others. Sponsors included NHPC, LR Active Oil, and Lakshaka Tex LLP.
