Unilever Indonesia’s shareholders will decide whether to approve the decision at the business’ upcoming Extraordinary General Meeting which will take place on July 28, ET Bureau reported. Along with being appointed as non-executive chairman, Mehta will join the business’ Board of Commissioners and chair the board in a non-executive capacity.

Unilever Indonesia’s Board of Commissioners oversees both business policy and the implementation of the business’ corporate governance agenda. The Board of Commissioners provides advice to the business’ Board of Directors.

After taking on his new role, Mehta will continue to lead the Indian arm of the business as well as continue his role as Unilever South Asia’s president. Mehta is also part of the Unilever Leadership Executive team.

Sanjiv Mehta first joined Hindustan Unilever in September 2013. During his time overseeing the Indian business, its market capitalisation increased three-fold to total Rs 5.2 lakh crore. This also contributed to Unilever’s Indian business overtaking its Brazil arm to become its second largest market after the US.
