Hugo Boss has turned over its main German plant to contribute to the production of masks, or the latest example by a major fashion brand supporting the fight against Covid-19.

In a related move, its international fragrance partner Coty has begun manufacturing hand sanitizers to additionally combat shortages caused by the coronavirus.

“We have dedicated our production facilities to the manufacture of face masks and have also repurposed our conference rooms into workshops by furnishing them with sewing machines and related equipment,” according to a release from the German brand, whose manufacturing plant is known as one of the most technically advanced in fashion.

Boss thus joins a list of apparel and luxury brands that have begun manufacturing masks, that includes Louis Vuitton, Barbour and HanesBrands.

The house is also gearing up to start making protective clothing to further support the fight against the pandemic.

“The prototype, developed at the German headquarters, is ready, while the manufacture of face masks is already in full swing,” added the 96-year old brand, which is based in the Swabian city of Metzingen, in southwest Germany.

All the items produced will be donated to public facilities such as nursing homes and fire departments in the coming weeks. It did not say how many of any product it would produce in total.
