As gender becomes an increasingly popular topic in the Indian media, especially relating to fashion, Huemn opted to show its support for gender diversity by adding a “non-binary” section to its recently launched e-commerce site.

The site has three gendered sections but the brand’s founders Pranav Misra and Shyma Shetty have explained that their entire label is gender neutral and that the move is to bring awareness to the topic and make gender non-conforming customers feel welcome, although anything from the brand’s collections is intended to be worn by any gender.

"By starting this, hopefully I’ll learn more about gender too," Misra told Elle India. "It just struck me, because we keep talking about acceptance, and how clothes and fashion aren't binary, but when it comes to giving the concept a deserving space, no one is doing that… Especially in a country like India, where it’s necessary to understand that gender is not a black and white issue."

The brand’s non-binary collection is modelled by Taksh Sharma, a transgender model who has just completed her transition. Although the section of the site currently only has a small selection of items,  multiple drops are planned for the near future.
