Harley Davidson opens fashion store in Kolkata; Varanasi and Goa are next
The motorcycle brand Harley Davidson is in the process of opening stores across India and opened its latest in Kolkata on May 21. Moving forward, stores will be opened in Varanasi and Goa.
After opening clothing stores in Northeast India in Manipur and Nagaland earlier this year, Harvey Davidson opened another clothing store, this time in Kolkata, on Monday. The store opening was inaugurated by the great-granddaughter of the brand’s co-founder, William A Davidson, Karen Davidson, currently in charge of the brand’s merchandise lines.
At the store launch, an official for the brand told DNA India: "As of now there are four stores and we have started from the Northeastern part and we will have a significant number of stores by the year-end. We would now expand to west, north and other places through stores which in near future would come up in Varanasi and Goa."
The company official explained that selling clothing allows Indian fans of the brand’s motorcycles to buy into the brand even if they cannot afford the motorcycles themselves. "The stores would introduce young men and women of India to the spirit of the brand," said the official. Harley Davidson aims to reach a total of 13 retail outlets across India.
Harley Davidson tied up with G-III Apparel Group this year to distribute its clothing and lifestyle products throughout the Asia –Pacific region. The brand started with Shanghai, China and then opened in Northeast India.
