H&M unveils full lookbook for Mugler collab, Jerry Hall features in imagery

H&M has unveiled the full collection for next month’s Mugler collab with the pieces being very recognisably Mugler and acting as “a celebration of the house’s iconic shapes and silhouettes”.

The lookbook reveals individual styles “defined by Mugler’s irrepressible energy: playful, youthful, body-positive, and open to every individual’s identity”.

It’s an important development for the label and Creative Director Casey Cadwallader actually called it “a watershed moment”. He added that it’s “a chance for us to celebrate our history, and the pieces that we are beloved for today”.

It's also interesting that the lookbook photography nods to the history of the label featuring models, such as Jerry Hall, who embody its early days. Shot by Lengua and styled by Haley Wollens, also part of the shoot are Connie Fleming, Mariacarla Boscono, Anna Ewers, Arise Won, Sora Choi, Imaan Hammam, Selena Forrest, and more.

As for the individual pieces, H&M’s Creative Advisor Ann-Sofie Johansson said that “Casey and the Mugler team have been incredibly generous in offering up, so many of the house’s classics and signatures, which shoppers will recognise from the runway and Red Carpet”.

The key to a successful designer collaboration really is creating a collection that’s recognisable as being from the label but at much lower prices. And the offer here suggests this has been achieved, which should translate into strong sales at the checkout.

Womenswear comes with the label’s signature, oversized shoulders and cinched waist for a very bodycon silhouette. Also included are pieces featuring the spiral multi-seaming for which Mugler has also become known. This runs throughout the collection in the form of baggy jeans, nylon and denim bonded thong jeans and jackets. 

There are also leather jackets and a leather trench coat with elongated scarf detailing, embellished dresses, and tailoring designed to be paired with catsuits, leggings, or cutout bodysuits.

The collection also features menswear and there are leather styles, including trousers, blazers, and a trench with engraved buttons. The men's denim selection takes in a sculpted jacket “with padding that accentuates the form”. And the company said that the sharp tailoring can be layered with see-through flocked star-print tops and corseted tanks.

And there are gender-fluid accessories, including sheer gloves, tights, bags, and scarves. The jewellery also includes silver and gold body chains, as well as earrings and necklaces, with teardrop motifs and the Mugler star.
