Gujarat govt announces bonus for cotton farmers

The Gujarat government has announced a bonus of Rs 100 per 20 kg for cotton to be paid to farmers. The bonus will be paid over and above the minimum support price (MSP) declared by the government. 

It will be given only to those farmers who sell their crop to the Cotton Corporation of India. The decision will add Rs 1,250 crore burden on the state exchequer.

The bonus of Rs 100 per 20 kg for cotton will help cotton farmers get remunerative prices for their produce, an official release quoted chief minister Vijay Rupani as saying in Vadodara.

The bonus amount of Rs 100 per 20 kg will be the same for all the three varieties of cotton produced in Gujarat, the release said. The MSPs of these varieties range from Rs 804 to Rs 864 per 20 kg.
