Government to organise ‘Hunar Haat’ to boost handloom, handicrafts sales

The Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA) will organise organising ‘Hunar Haat’ at the India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Pragati Maidan in Delhi.

The Hunar Haat initiative of the government will give a platform to artisans across India to showcase and sell their collections through the stalls at the fair. The Haat will be inaugurated by Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on November 15.
 
“Hunar Haats have proved to be empowerment and employment exchange platforms for master artisans and craftsmen. Our purpose behind this endeavour is to provide market and opportunity to master artisans and craftsmen which include a large number of women," Naqvi said in a statement.

"During the last one year, the Hunar Haat initiative has provided employment and opportunities to more than 1.50 lakh persons including artisans and other people associated with them. Our target is to provide employment to about 5 lakh people through this," Naqvi added.
 
Products such as jute craft, lac stone studded bangles, lacquerware, linen products, handloom products, mulberry silk, paithani silk, phulkari, Punjabi jutti, zari bags and more will be available at the fair.
 
'Hunar Haat' has been organised in several places like Allahabad, Puducherry, and Mumbai. In the coming month, the fair will be organised in Mumbai followed by New Delhi, and Goa.
