Government to invest Rs 6,850 crore in Madhya Pradesh MITRA Park

The government will invest Rs 6,850 crore into the Prime Minister Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel Park in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh and will also invest Rs 8,675 crore into other areas of the state. The move is designed to boost the state’s textile industry.

Union Minister for Textiles Piyush Goyal announced the investment on May 21 as he launched the park in Dhar, Goyal announced on Facebook. The occasion saw the central and Madhya Pradesh state governments sign a memorandum of understanding for the initiative. 
 
“Farmers and businesses will benefit from this park, which is a result of the double-engine government in the state,” said Goyal on May 21, ET Bureau reported. “Investment of around Rs 6,850 crore is expected in this park… Dhar PM MITRA park was decided by the central as well as the state government. Dhar is primarily Adivasi district… The park will help create employment and help boost the profits earned by farmers.”

The government’s PM MITRA scheme is designed to boost the nation’s textile production and increase access to new technologies. Under the scheme, state governments transfer land to a Special Purpose Vehicle which is a legal entity comprised of 51% state government equity shareholding and 49% central government shareholding.
