The state government of Odisha has singled out the textile industry as a focus area for its ‘Make in Odisha’ initiative to promote manufacturing within the state and aims to draw significant investments to the industry.

“For attracting investment in the textile and apparel industry, the state has ensured ready availability of developed land with adequate infrastructure in several textile parks, skilled manpower by setting up centres of excellence and IIT, along with [the] creation of new mega parks, lowering the cost of production and logistics and encouraging new entrants through startups,” said the Odisha state secretary for industry Hemant Sharma, TNN reported.
The state government will focus on enabling the creation of international standard facilities to encourage investors to choose the region for funding. By increasing funding in its textile sector and producing high quality products, the state will also be able to increase its exports.
The state government has also taken steps to ensure there is adequate manpower to meet the demand of an expanding textiles industry. The Government of Odisha will set up a number of institutes in which to train workers for the textile sector and recently supported the opening of a World Skills Centre in partnership with Asian Development Bank and the Institute of Technical Eduction Services, based in Singapore.
