Google Pay partners MMTC-PAMP India to sell gold

Google has partnered with bullion refiner MMTC-PAMP India to sell gold online through its Google Pay app as it looks to take on rivals Paytm, Mobikwik and PhonePe.

The partnership will allow Google Pay users to buy gold buy 99.99 percent 24-karat gold through its platform.
 
The gold purchased by the customers will be stored on behalf of the user, by MMTC-PAMP, in secure vaults which can be cashed in at any time as per the latest rates through the Google Pay app.

"Gold is core to Indian culture and tradition, making India the world's second largest consumer of gold. Indians buy gold to mark auspicious occasions each year be it Akshaya Tritiya, Dhanteras or Diwali," Google Pay India director product management Ambarish Kenghe said in a statement.
 
The latest gold offering by Google is expected to help the tech giant to make deeper inroads in the country’s booming digital market as India is the world’s largest consumer of gold.
 
MMTC-PAMP India, a joint venture between bullion refinery PAMP SA Switzerland and public sector metals firm MMTC Ltd.
