Godrej Consumer’s Q1 net profit rises 5 percent to Rs 414 crore

FMCG major Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL) reported a 5 percent rise in its consolidated net profit to Rs 414 crore ($56 million) for the first quarter ended June 2021, as against a net profit of Rs 395 crore it reported in the year-ago period.

The company’s revenue for the quarter rose by 24 percent to Rs 2,863 crore, as compared with Rs 2,311 crore it reported in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
 
GCPL’s total expenses for the quarter rose by 22 percent to Rs 2,372.65 crore, as against Rs 1,952 crore a year ago.

Commenting on the Q1 results, GCPL chairperson and managing director Nisaba Godrej, in a statement said: "We saw strong double-digit sales growth in the home care and personal care categories. Home care grew by 14 per cent and personal care rose 29 per cent. The sub-categories within home care and personal care saw broad-based growth."
 
On the outlook, Godrej said: "Going forward, we will continue to focus our efforts where the demand is in home care and personal care - in household insecticides, personal wash and hygiene, and hair care. We remain confident of leveraging growth opportunities to drive sustainable, profitable sales growth across our portfolio in the financial year 2022.”
 
Godrej Consumer Products Ltd is owned by the billion-dollar firm Godrej Group and has a strong presence in the personal care and cosmetics market.
