Fast-moving-consumer-goods major Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL) reported a decline of 25 percent in its consolidated net profit at Rs 359 crore ($44.2 million) for the second quarter ended September, as against Rs 479 crore it reported in the year-ago period.

The company’s revenue for the quarter rose by 7 percent to Rs 3,364 crore, as against Rs 3,144 crore in the corresponding period last fiscal.

GCPL's total expenses for the quarter rose by 14 percent to Rs 2,951 crore, as compared to last year’s Rs 2,579 crore.

Commenting on the Q2 results, Sudhir Sitapati, CEO managing director of GCPL in a statement said, “Our overall EBITDA declined by 15 percent driven by consumption of high-cost inventory, upfront marketing investments and a weak performance in our Indonesia and Latin America & SAARC businesses. PAT without exceptional items and one-offs declined by 21 percent.”

"We continue to believe that with the relatively non-discretionary, mass pricing of our portfolio and good performance on market shares, volume growth will return in the short term. We continue to have a healthy balance sheet and our net debt to equity ratio continues to drop. We are on a journey to reduce inventory and wasted cost and are deploying this to drive profitable and sustainable volume growth across our portfolio through category development,” he added.

Godrej Consumer Products Ltd owned by the Godrej Group is one of India’s leading players in the personal care and cosmetics market.
