The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council has already registered close to 11,000 visitors for its upcoming IIJS Signature, a 261% year-on-year increase that is a ray of hope in an industry facing a slowdown.

The upcoming IIJS Signature’s Design Inspirations initiative will feature a seminar with industry leaders - GJEPC- India- Facebook

“This premium B2B jewellery-buying show has already attracted more than 10,800 pre-registered visitors,” said the GJEPC in a statement on its website.

“These visitors have confirmed their presence for the show in the first phase of pre-registration that ended on December 17th 2019, which is 261% higher than last year. The GJEPC is expecting to get more registrations in the second phase that will end in mid-January 2020.”

“IIJS Signature has defined itself as an important barometer of success for the Indian industry, showcasing the best of jewellery in terms of design, quality and finish, as well as high technology solutions – all under one roof,” said GJEPC chairman Pramod Agrawal, the GJEPC reported.

“The show will undoubtedly help to boost India’s jewellery exports from $12 billion at present to $18 billion by 2025.”

“The heartening response received from exhibitors and visitors for IIJS Signature – in terms of record numbers of stall bookings and pre-registrations – is the best antidote to the slowdown that has affected our industry for so long,” said GJEPC vice chairman Colin Shah.

“It is a clear indication that the trade believes 2020 will witness an uptick in demand throughout the pipeline.”

The recent slowdown in the jewellery industry has affected diamond cutters now facing unemployment in Surat, and jewellers struggling to obtain bank finance. The GJEPC has been promoting IIJS Signature through roadshows across India with the aim of rejuvenating the industry.

The trade show will take place from February 13 to 16, 2020, at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai. This year the event will include a 'Design Pavilion' for the first time to showcase jewellery collections by nine women entrepreneurs who will be selected especially for the event with the aims of introducing them to global buyers.

The trade show will also include the Artisan Awards 2020 with its theme 'Architectural Gems', which will take place on February 12 in Mumbai. The first round of judging has selected 27 finalists from 625 entries.
