The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council is running initiatives to promote its India Jewellery Park Mumbai and Parichay Card initiatives to artisans in Mumbai to boost the area’s jewellery industry.

The GJEPC launched a Parichay Card in Kolkata in 2019 and expanded it to cover the whole country

The GJEPC organised two promotional booths at the 21st Mega Blood Donation Camp at CP Tank in Mumbai on January 26 in order to disseminate information about its initiatives, the organisation announced on its website. The event was organised by the artisan welfare association, Bengali Swarna Shilpi Kalyan Sangha and was attended by the GJEPC’s events convenor, Mansukh Kothari, and executive director, Sabyasachi Ray.

The event saw the GJEPC’s department for micro, small, and medium enterprises brief the attending artisans on its schemes. By offering features such as health insurance benefits through its Parichay card, the GJEPC aims to ameliorate the livelihoods of jewellery workers and in turn boost the wider industry.

A total of over 400 karigars expressed an interest in signing up for the Parichay Card at the event, according to the GJEPC. The Parichay Card, which debuted in Kolkata in 2019 before rolling out pan-India, is designed to create a database of jewellery workers and improve their skill development and job opportunities as well as offering other benefits.
