The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council opened its first Gem and Jewellery Export Facilitation Centre in New Delhi on October 25 with the aim of strengthening trade relationships in India’s jewellery industry.
The GJEPC opened its first facilitation centre with the aim of creating a physical space where jewellery businesses can visit to help them build their trade network, the organisation posted on its Facebook page. The centre was inaugurated by the Ministry of Commerce’s economic adviser Rupa Dutta who cut the red tape to open the facility.
“Setting up this centre is one of the key proactive initiatives been taken by the GJEPC to boost the export of gems and jewellery products,” the GJEPC posted on Facebook. “It will further help in strengthening trade relationships and will assist the gems and jewellery member exporters in the field of export facilitation in the long run.”
Dutta has spoken about the Union Government’s commitment to the country’s gem and jewellery industry on numerous occasions. “The government is serious about the gems and jewellery industry and wants to promote the common facility centres for the growth of the sector,” Dutta said at the Kimberley Process Intersessional Meet in Mumbai in July, as reported by Retail Jeweller India. “There are total 10,000 units across India with over 1.2 million skilled workforces, readily available for the MSME’s of the gems and service sector.”
