The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council has launched two new training programmes through its Gujarat regional office as part of its Kaushalyam scheme, one for diamond polishing and one for jewellery design.

The GJEPC is running training programmes in the diamond hub of Surat to increase technology literacy - GJEPC India- Facebook

The GJEPC held a function in the week to launch two new Kaushalyam programmes in Surat through its Gujarat regional office, it announced on Thursday. The Surat Regional Office launched the initiatives in collaboration with the Indian Diamond Institute which will provide technical training for the two programmes.

The diamond training programme will run for eight weeks and has a group of 20 students. The programme is training existing members of the workforce and covers a number of diamond cutting techniques. Two weeks of the course is sponsored by M/s. Lexus Softmac, Surat.

The jewellery designing programme will run over four weeks with 18 students and is teaching aspiring designers to use Corel  Draw software to render professional jewellery designs. The course will show students how to convert a handmade design to a computer design.

At the launch event, the GJEPC’s Gujarat regional committee member and IDI chairman Keval Virani spoke on the importance of technology as well as skill in today’s jewellery industry. The GJEPC is investing in training on new technology such as “Galahad” Robotic Techniques to keep the Indian jewellery industry competitive in the global market.
