On November 3, the GJEPC inaugurated its four-day virtual buyer seller meet for emeralds following a number of country-specific virtual meets, among others. The event was designed to boost India’s international gem trade.

“More than 90% of emeralds are processed in India, so the VBSM is a good opportunity for buyers and sellers to conduct business during the pandemic,” said Ministry of Commerce and Industry joint secretary Suresh Kumar, the GJEPC reported.

“Due to travel restrictions, using technology to connect with business partners throughout the globe. GJEPC is doing really impressive work. The virtual formats are interactive as they focus on one-on-one meetings. This technology, especially for the new generation, will be the new normal.”

The ten Jaipur-based exhibitors comprise Fine Colour Gems, Sheru Gems, Ashok Jewellers, K.K. Gems Trading Company, Swastic Exports, Gems Park, Dusad & Company, V.P. Gems, M & M Gems, and Anurag International. The 22 participating buyers hail from countries including China, the U.S., Russia, and Australia, as well as several European countries.

The GJEPC has recently been undertaking a wide range of activities focused on the gem industry. The traders’ body recently shifted and updated the Gem Testing Laboratory in Jaipur with a new space, new machinery, and a host of new services and also launched a month-long gem expo in Jaipur which is ongoing. The GJEPC plans to ameliorate India’s standing in the global gem market.
