The GJEPC held a trade seminar on October 3 at the Bharat Diamond Bourse’s Convention Hall in Bandra to address issues surrounding “pre-notice consultation / show cause cum demand notice for non levy of customs duty re-imported,” the organisation posted on its website. The GJEPC found that some member businesses have wrongly availed benefits under Sr.No.5 of Notification 46/2017 dated June 30, 2017.

The seminar aimed to help businesses which had not get submitted their replies to the Pre-notice Consultation, Show Cause Cum Demand Notice, and Personal Hearing orders. Since the Goods and Services Tax was implemented in 2017, there have been complaints of compliance challenges and unclear guidelines. The GJEPC hopes that, by educating businesses on compliance, it can speed up growth in the jewellery industry.

The GJEPC’s assistant director of trade policy, Dr. Jitarani, educated businesses on how to best respond to customs issues. Trade consultant Mr. Iqbal also gave advice to the audience. The speakers also interacted with businesses to give customs advice. As close to 400 trade members attended the meeting, the large scope of the issue can be seen.
