The interactive session engaged with manufacturers and stakeholders based in the Ankurhati Gem and Jewellery Park and in the wider Howrah district, the GJEPC reported on its website. Representatives from approximately 35 companies attended the workshop and the session kicked off with the GJEPC’s eastern regional chairman Pankaj Parekh giving an overview of the global opportunities offered by the gem and jewellery industry and how to get started.

The event was also attended by representatives from Yes Bank who shared information on how to obtain duty-free gold for jewellery export and the documents needed to do so. A representative from the State Bank of India gave a run down of financial support opportunities available to both exporters and manufacturers.

The Government of West Bengal runs a scheme to promote micro, small, and medium enterprise growth in the state. As part of this initiative, the state government and State Bank of India have a number of financial support measures available for jewellers in the area. The Howrah district has also been designated as a focus area for the gem and jewellery industry for the government’s ‘One District One Product’ initiative.
