Over 45 trade representatives attended the recent GJEPC Surat workshop, the GJEPC announced on its website. The event aimed to address concerns from exporters in the region on slow shipments and gave tips on how to correctly follow procedures in order to speed up the process as part of the GJEPC’s wider goal of increasing jewellery exports.

The workshop covered the ‘E-Sanchit’ system for customs clearance and deputy commissioner of Customs for the Surat Hira Bourse, Prasad Varwantkar, pledged to work towards reducing the time taken to process shipments.

Varwantkar stressed the importance of following customs regulations for speedy processing and explained new initiatives for the sector including the removal of Post Clearance Audit. Varwantkar also said that he would consider increasing staff to speed up exports after reviewing data over the coming months.

Other speakers at the workshop included GJEPC regional chairman, Dinesh Navadiya, who pledged his support to the implementation of new regulations for trade practices. GJEPC regional director Jilpa Sheth suggested holding a quarterly stakeholder meeting, which the deputy commissioner accepted.
