The GJEPC held a costume and fashion jewellery workshop in West Bengal as a follow-up to its July Exporter’s Meet in Kolkata, the organisation posted on its website. The workshop welcomed nearly 70 costume jewellery manufacturers from the Singur region.

The aim of the event was to discuss untapped opportunities in the costume jewellery export market through analysing trade statistics, major buyers, and export destinations. The GJEPC’s eastern regional chairman Prakash Chandra Pincha gave a presentation and encouraged manufacturers to export jewellery from the Bengal region as its artisanal heritage will do well in international markets.

Pincha also announced that the GJEPC is in the process of establishing a Common Facility Centre in Bowbazar, Kolkata, to help businesses that cannot invest in expensive casting and finishing machines. The centre should be ready by January 2020 and will service the artisans of Bengal. Pincha also promoted the upcoming Jaipur International Show which is scheduled for 2020.

The Imitation Jewellery Manufacturers Association’s secretary Nagendra Mehta raised a proposal to rename “Imitation Jewellery” as “Costume and Fashion Jewellery” and encouraged Singur manufacturers to embrace new technology. Other speakers highlighted the need to skill renewal and the importance of design and quality control.
