GJEPC Gem Testing Laboratory Jaipur partners with Ebay for certification services

On January 3, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council’s Gem Testing Laboratory in Jaipur signed a memorandum of understanding with e-commerce giant Ebay, and will offer certification services to all Ebay gem sellers.

 
The GJEPC GTL Jaipur will certify gems for Ebay sellers for a specially agreed nominal fee, following the recent signing of a MoU with the business, the GJEPC announced on its website.

The partnership aims to make certification easier to obtain for online sellers and encourage the practice to increase consumer confidence. 

All gems sold on Ebay will now come with a GTL certificate of authentication. The GJEPC hopes the move will encourage exports of gemstones and gemstone studded jewellery from India.
 
“This strategic initiative enhances consumer trust and credibility in the global markets and also helps to promote brand India internationally through credible certification,” said the GJEPC’s chairman Pramod Kumar Agrawal.

“It will help the sellers on Ebay to build customer confidence as well as assist in increasing sales of Indian handcrafted gemstones and allied jewellery in overseas markets.”
 
“This is a significant step in taking Indian gemstone craftsmanship and designs to international markets in 2020,” said Agrawal.

“And we expect many more e-commerce platforms to sign similar agreements with GTL Jaipur.”

GTL’s Jaipur laboratory, opened in 1972, is currently being updated and will soon move to new premises in Sitapura, as part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s TIES Scheme.
 
“Ebay India’s effort is to build trust and saliency for Indian jewellery sellers to enhance their business,” said Ebay’s India country head Vidmay Naini, the GJEPC reported.

“In this endeavour we are partnering with GJEPC to enable sellers on Ebay India certify gemstones sold on Ebay marketplace. The GTL certification ensures that global customers are assured of the best quality of gemstones which are Made in India. India gemstone sellers will definitely see an edge over other global sellers.”
