GJEPC donates Rs 71 lakh to Rajasthan Medicare Relief Society to fight coronavirus

The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council has donated Rs 71 lakh ($94,068) to the Rajasthan Medicare Relief Society to purchase equipment for the Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur to fight coronavirus.

The GJEPC’s chairman Pramod Kumar Agrawal presented the GJEPC’s donation to the Chief Minister of Rajasthan Shri Ashok Gehlot on June 2, the GJEPC announced on its website.

Agrawal gave a presentation and was accompanied by the GJEPC’s regional chairman for Rajasthan, Nirmal Kumar Bardiya; coloured gemstone and pearls panel convenor Vijay Kedia; and silver jewellery panel convenor Ram Babu Gupta.

The funds have been allocated from the GJEPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility Fund and will be used to purchase medical equipment for the Sawai Man Singh Hospital. The medical facility is one of the main centres being used to treat Covid-19 patients in the area, according to the GJEPC.
 
The GJEPC has approached state governments in areas which are central to India’s jewellery trade, including gem hub Jaipur. The organisation is also extending support to daily-wage workers in the gem and jewellery industry who have a monthly income of under Rs 15,000.
 
The GJEPC has held a number of webinars during lockdown on topics pertaining to jewellery businesses and how to deal with the current situation.

Its most recent Zoom webinar instructed businesses on how to register on Icegate for e-Sanchit Implementation, it announced on Facebook. E-Sanchit is the Government of India’s online system for import cargo to handle customs clearance.
