GJEPC donates Rs 21 crore to Covid-19 fund, praises government measures

The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council has pledged Rs 21 crore ($2.84 million) to the PM Cares fund on behalf of the gem and jewellery industry and has praised the government’s decision to extend the export realisation period.

The GJEPC has pledged Rs 21 crore to the PM Cares fund and has asked its members to contribute to the initiative in the fight against Covid-19 in India, it announced on its website.

“The nation is facing an unprecedented crisis and needs the service of organisations and their resources like never before,” said the GJEPC’s chairman, Pramod Kumar Agrawal, according to the GJEPC’s website. 

“In such times, the council steps forward to show its solidarity and ardent support towards all the initiatives undertaken by Government of India to Fight Covid-19,” said Agrawal.

“I am hopeful that GJEPC’s contribution towards PM-Cares Fund can make a difference to several initiatives undertaken by the government towards relief of Covid-19.”
 
The GJEPC also welcomed the government’s decision to extend the export realisation period and changes to its Foreign Trade policy, it announced on its website.

The Reserve Bank of India has extended the time period for the realisation and repatriation of export proceeds for exports made up to or on July 31, 2020 by 15 months from the date of export. The Ministry of Finance has also announced various taxation extensions, which the GJEPC praised.
