Both the GJEPC and the GII signed MoUs in Shanghai on the sidelines of the 2nd China International Import Expo on November 8, the GJEPC posted on its website. The GJEPC called the signing an “historic moment for both sides” as the agreements aim to increase cooperation between India and China in different sections of the gem and jewellery industry.

The GJEPC signed a MoU with the China Gem and Jade Exchange to facilitate cooperation between the two organisations to promote the international exchange of coloured stones and jewellery. Both organisations pledged to set up an information exchange mechanism, organise buyer-seller meets, seminars, exhibitions, and other activities. Training programmes will also take place on how to boost exports.

The GII’s MoU was signed with a project of GJEPC and the National Gemstone Testing Centre of China. The MoU follows on from the Letter of Intent signed in 2017 and will see both organisations collaborate on jewellery education and training through an exchange of faculty members and diamond graders. The two organisations will also work to harmonise grading and testing standards for gems, diamonds, and diamond jewellery along the lines of the Asia-Pacific Gemstone and Technology Standardization Alliance.
