GIA India donates Rs 1.94 crore to GJNRF's Swasthya Kosh fund

The Gemological Institute of America India has donated Rs 1.94 crore to the Gem and Jewellery National Relief Foundation for its Swasthya Kosh Fund. The money will be used to aid the charity’s efforts providing healthcare to jewellery industry workers.

The GIA India’s donation was made as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council reported on its website. GIA president and CEO Susan Jacques and GIA India managing director Sriram Natarajan presented a cheque for the donation to GJEPC chairman Vipul Shah at a celebratory event. 
 
The Gem and Jewellery National Relief Foundation’s Swasthya Kosh Fund provides preventative healthcare to contracted gem and jewellery industry workers through an insurance plan it offers. The GJEPC set up the Swathya Kosh fund with the aim of better supporting vital gem and jewellery industry workers to in turn help the domestic industry to flourish. 

The GIA India also recently held an orientation for the staff of R Giri Pai Jewellery in Cochin to share knowledge on the four ‘Cs’ of diamond quality, the GIA’s International Diamond Grading System, lab-grown diamonds and GIA grading reports, the GIA India announced on Facebook. The organisation hold a wide range of educational events across India and also held a diamond information session in Gurugram for the staff of Bombay Jewellers.
