The event took place on March 29 and was jointly inaugurated by the Gemological Institute of America’s India managing director Sriram Natarajan and Bharat Diamond Bourse president Anoop Mehta, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council announced on its website. The Gems and Jewellery National Relief Foundation was founded by members of the jewellery industry in 1999 and was recently active offering aid during the pandemic.

“When we approached donors for help in organising ambulances, medicines, and more, they wanted to know more about the Foundation through our website, which of course we didn’t have,” said Gems and Jewellery National Relief Foundation chairman Sanjay Kothari at the event, the GJEPC reported. “That’s when the idea germinated and we decided to chronicle all the charitable works on the website to reach a bigger audience.”

“We really appreciate that in every GJNRF project there has been the direct involvement of senior members right down to the grassroots level,” said Natarajan at the event. “Such personal commitment to the causes they espouse is really praiseworthy.”
