Designer Gaurav Gupta has opened a new, larger flagship store in Mumbai’s Kala Ghoda district. Designed by architect Vishal K Dar, the space is both a museum and a concept store.

Gaurav Gupta’s new Mumbai store is inspired by the concept of “zero infinity” and is an all white, sculptural and experiential space, the brand announced on Facebook. With more space and a more immersive atmosphere than Gupta’s previous store in the area, the flagship echoes the recent explorations of Gupta’s internationally showcased couture collections.
“We were one of the first ones to open in Kala Ghoda eight years ago, and Sabya was actually the first one,” Gupta told Vogue India. “And he left that store, and I took its place. And I think when one of the big players comes, others also come. So Kala Ghoda became a hub. It all happened in front of us. We saw Sequel open next door, Trishna continue like the institution it is. Now, seven, eight years later, we needed a much bigger space in Bombay. The brand is growing, so we needed a bigger footprint and this one is 1500 sq ft. At the same time, we have multiple collections now. When we launched, we didn't have Menswear. We now have atelier collections now, which are larger couture pieces, and our couture is becoming larger and larger. We have a customised couture segment and the Bridal segment.”
The three-storey space uses curved lines to play with proportion and took a year to bring to life. Gupta aims to use the space not just as a shop but also to act as a hub for sustainability and creative culture.
“We have so many multiple collections which need to be displayed and detailed. So it came out of a need. And then when we did it, it just became a dream of we just wanted to make an extreme statement of we just went with the flow. We took a long time to zero down on an architect.”
