Menswear brand Gargee Designer's expects a Rs 30 lakh hit as sales grind to a halt under lockdown, but the brand has committed to continuing to pay its workers and expects to bounce back after the pandemic passes.

Like many fashion houses, Delhi-based brand Gargee Designer's is already feeling the effects of India’s 21-day lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus.

“Estimated losses should be around Rs 30 lakh includes lower profit margins plus a low sale as the summer wedding season was going on,” the brand’s creative director, Ravi Gupta, and managing director, Rohan Gupta, told FashionNetwork.com.

The brand was about to launch its summer collection, which has now been put on hold. New designs will launch after the lockdown lifts, said Gupta, and postponed events will be rescheduled.

“The monetary losses are worth the overall wellbeing of the society and it's our civic duty to do whatever best possible to contain this virus outbreak,” said the brothers, who shared with FashionNetwork.com that they will continue to pay their workers during lockdown.

“Our work is something which cannot be done from home, because all the work is done with the raw material and heavy machinery,” said Gupta.

“We have all the labor class workers, so we still have to pay them, as they are dependent on their salary even when they are not working.”

Despite the current challenges the entire Indian fashion industry is facing, Gargee Designer's remains positive for the future.

“When the situation will be under control, people will come back and shop with more enthusiasm,” said the brothers.
