Gap in talks with Myntra for India operations

​U.S. apparel retailer Gap Inc is in talks with Flipkart-owned fashion retailer Myntra to continue its business operations in the Indian market.
 

The move comes after Arvind Lifestyle Brands Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Arvind Fashions Limited (AFL), and Gap Inc decided to mutually terminate their franchise business relationship in the Indian market.
 
Gap is exploring potential partnerships in India with Myntra a strong contender. The business transition is a work in progress, the Mint reported citing anonymous sources.

“Gap Inc. is evaluating potential partnerships to continue serving customers in India. Franchise partnerships are an important and cost-effective way to grow our Gap business. Through company-operated stores, e-commerce sites, and franchise partners, the Gap brand reaches customers in about 40 countries," a company spokesperson said in response to queries from Mint.

Arvind and Gap had decided to terminate the partnership due to the circumstances post the corona pandemic which has resulted in huge losses due to the restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the virus.
 
The Gap business contributed revenue of Rs 182 crore ($24.7 million) to Arvind Fashions Ltd consolidated turnover, with a loss of Rs 34 crore for the financial year 2019-20.
