GJEPC updates Gem Testing Laboratory in Jaipur to offer new services as India’s largest certification facility for coloured gemstones

The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council has upgraded its Gem Testing Laboratory in Jaipur. The new 10,000-square-foot laboratory now houses a range of new infrastructure and will offer numerous new services. 

 
The GJEPC’s GTL in Sitapura, Jaipur is now India’s largest certification facility for coloured gemstones, the organisation announced on its website. The GJEPC shifted the facility from the Rajasthan Chamber Bhawan, where it operated for 48 years, to a new location inside the premises of the Indian Institute of Gem and Jewellery.
 
“Keeping in step with India’s ambition of becoming the world’s jewellery manufacturing centre of choice, the Council has upgraded GTL Jaipur with state-of-the-art infrastructure, thereby ensuring in-house testing and grading capabilities of the highest standards for our manufacturers,” said GJEPC chairman Colin Shah, the GJEPC reported.

“The broadening of the portfolio of services will enable us to keep building consumer trust and confidence in the jewellery category.”
 
The GJEPC plans to offer a variety of new services from the new facility, once an internal database is set up for the new machinery it houses. These services to be offered in addition to its current services will include certification of origin for rubies, sapphires, and emeralds; testing and certification of pearls; low-cost certification of melee-sized diamond packets; separating natural and synthetic diamonds; and low-cost certification of packets of polki-cut diamonds, separating natural and synthetic. The GJEPC plans to use the facility to service jewellers across India and is working with a logistics partner to do so.
