On Wednesday, the GJEPC’s executive director Sabyasachi Ray welcomed members of the IIFR New Delhi. Dr. Ankit Kesharwani, assistant professor at CTFL, IIFT, then gave a presentation on how the central government’s Logistics Division’s recent work will help the gem and jewellery industry, according to the GJEPC website. Kesharwani said that the Logistics division is developing a sector specific Logistics Performance Index which will enable jewellery businesses to pinpoint issues they face in terms of logistics and find a way forward to help to increase exports.

The GJEPC’s Dr. Jitarani led a discussion with member exporters and discussed four main points. One point of discussion was customs procedures including the non-availability of duty free gold and time taken for customs clearance. The e-commerce policy and e-commerce exports were also discussed as well as the non-availability of hand carriage for gems and jewellery, and other relevant issues.

Member exporters also shared the issues they face with logistics and posited ways the central government could help. The GJEPC’s western regional chairman Ashok Gajera also took part in the event.
