From February 10 to 13, India’s fine jewellers descended on Gurugram, Mumbai, to discuss what the coming year has in store for the industry. A number of panel discussions were held on topics such as jewellery styles, designs, and trends for 2019 and the event concluded with the Best Inventory Awards at IIJS Signature which chose the best pieces from the show and awarded jewellers for their work.

The 12th edition of the jewellery exhibition saw over 600 exhibitors, with over 1,200 booths occupy 30,000 square metres of convention space. With over 18,000 trade visitors from over 325 Indian cities and 55 countries, the exhibition was one of India’s largest in the industry. The event was powered by Gia and in partnership with the Diamond Producers Association and was sponsored by the Government Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

On February 10, the event was inaugurated by the Addl. Chief Secretary for Industries, Subodh Agarwal. An array of jewellery designers took their best pieces to the show for evaluation by a panel of experts and the best were later rewarded for their work at the awards ceremony.

The Design Inspirations panel held on February 12 saw Priyanka Kapadia and Harshad Ajoomal discuss the role of jewellery in the Indian fashion industry and the GJEPC’s chairman, Pramod Kumar Agrawal, also addressed the audience with his vision. The jeweller Richa Goyal Sikri took the occasion to share her journey towards a love of coloured gems.

The trade show provided both domestic and international buyers the chance to see what the Indian jewellery industry has to offer. As a major event for buyers, for many jewellers, the tone for the year has already been set.
