“It’s an enriched Gold Souk experience,” the GJEPC announced on Facebook. “The Dubai Gold Souk Extension is redefining the gold and jewellery trade in Dubai. Be a part of this new must-see shopping destination.”

The Dubai Gold Souk Extension was recently opened after being developed by real estate business Ithra Dubai which is fully owned by the Investment Corporation of Dubai, Business Wire reported. The extension to the historic shopping area is designed to rejuvenate the area and rekindle Dubai’s reputation as the ‘City of Gold’, aiming to welcome jewellery brands from across the world.

The retail area is situated within the Deira area of Dubai. The ongoing Deira Enrichment Project aims to rejuvenate the Deira area which is home to 1% of Dubai’s residents and responsible for 10% of Dubai’s GDP, according to Ithra’s website.

Along with stores, the Dubai Gold Souk Extension features workshops, co-working spaces, covered parking, restaurants, and a nearby waterfront promenade among other facilities. Since the soft launch, over 50 jewellery brands have opened stores in the area. The 1.2 million square foot development is part of Dubai’s 2040 Urban Master Plan designed to boost growth.
