The GJEPC’s first India-USA Jewellery Buyer-Seller Meet, which concludes on September 12, has provided an opportunity for Indian jewellery manufacturers to build ties with international buyers to increase their exports. The GJEPC reported that 23 US businesses attended the event including representatives from Kays Jewellers, Zales, People’s Jewellers, and Ben Bridge Jewelers among others.

Although the focus was on US jewellery businesses, nine representatives from the UK, Ireland, Spain, Germany, and New Zealand have also attended the trade show bringing the international representative total to 32. The majority of the participating Indian businesses have come from Mumbai as well as a number from Surat, Pune, Nagpur, and Uttar Pradesh.

“We want US buyers to discover the intrinsically crafted pieces woven out of tales of romance, creativity, heritage, charisma and elegance to say the least,” said the GJEPC’s chairman Pramod Agrawal at the inauguration of the event, according to the GJEPC’s website. “GJEPC’s member exporters will showcase some of the finest contemporary jewellery pieces resonating our country’s forte in curating and crafting fine jewellery.”

“Currently, India is the largest supplier of gems and jewellery products to the US, exceeding the combined exports of both China and Thailand to your country,” said GJEPC vice president Colin Shah at the event. “The hike in tariffs on Chinese jewellery products will indirectly benefit Indian manufacturers and has created scope for exports from here to grow further.” Shah also said that Indian businesses are committed to responsible business practices.
