“The Council attributes this milestone to the leadership and continued support of the government towards the gem and jewellery sector, which has played a pivotal role in propelling the industry to new heights,” said GJEPC chairman Vipul Shah, the GJEPC announced on its website. “It is through the combined efforts of the government and industry that we are able to create an environment that promotes sustainable growth and generates opportunities for all our members… This achievement is even more remarkable considering the challenges we have faced in the past two years, to overcome pandemic. It is a clear demonstration of the commitment of the gem and jewellery community to rise above adversity and drive export growth.”

The GJEPC’s main aim is to promote Indian gem and jewellery exports and boost domestic business. To this end it organises multiple trade shows a year and organises buyer-seller meets internationally. The GJEPC also liaises between trade and government and carries out research and development among other activities.

“We are immensely grateful to the persistent support of our members,” said GJEPC vice chairman Kirit Bhansali. “A whopping 85% of GJEPC’s members are MSME [micro, small, and medium enterprise] manufacturers across segments of gems and jewellery. And this undoubtedly demonstrates the commitment of India’s gems & jewellery industry towards exports.”
