GJEPC launches sixth India Rough Gemstone Sourcing Show in Jaipur

The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council launched the sixth edition of its India Rough Gemstone Sourcing Show in Jaipur to showcase a wide array of emeralds to buyers. 

The event, which kicked off on August 31, will run for three weeks until September 20, the GJEPC announced on its website. The sale features a wide selection of rough emeralds displayed by Gemfields-owned business Kagem Mining Limited, based in Zambia.
 
“First held during the pandemic, IRGSS became an important platform for manufacturers to source rough during lockdowns and remains vital, as the increased demand from key markets requires easy access and constant supply of rough,” said the GJEPC’s newly elected chairman Vipul Shah, the GJEPC announced on its website. “The colour gemstone sector is doing well. For the period of April to July 2022, provisional gross exports of coloured gemstones grew 44% year-on-year to Rs 938.06 crore (+37.37% in dollar terms to $ 120.88 million).”

The event was inaugurated by Jaipur’s customs commissioner Sugrive Meena. Dignitaries including the GJEPC’s regional chairman for Rajasthan Nirmal Kumar Bardiya and Jaipur’s assistant customs commissioner Anupama Saksena also attended the launch event. 
 
“Congratulations to the GJEPC for successfully organising the sixth edition of IRGSS,” said Jaipur’s customs commissioner Sugrive Meena, the GJEPC reported. “The platform has made rough sourcing easy for our manufacturers without having to travel across the world. You can always expect to receive all the support from the Customs Department for organising such shows. I feel that along with emeralds, we should also bring in other gemstones such as rubies, which would help further developing manufacturing of ruby in Jaipur.”
