The VicenzaOro jewellery showcase, which ran from January 17 to 22 in Vicenza, Italy, held its grand opening on January 17 and the GJEPC’s chairman Pramod Kumar Agrawal took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony, the GJEPC announced on its website. The inaugural session was followed by two panel discussions and Agrawal took part in a panel which discussed the 'Future of Diamonds'. The other panel discussion focused on the 'Future of Jewellery'.

The discussion concluded that the diamond industry must focus on transparency, inclusion, and individuality. As the public is better informed than ever, it is more important than ever to pursue these values, the panellists agreed, the GJEPC reported.

The panel also agreed that, where once jewellery was linked to a special moment, it has become more of a personal item.

“The concept of luxury, which once, besides quality, evoked exclusiveness and social status… now continues to speak of quality but the artisan kind, one that must inspire inclusiveness and a social purpose,” said Stephen Lussier, executive vice-president for consumer and brands at De Beers Group, according to the GJEPC.

Other panellists highlighted the importance of addressing economic, social, and environmental concerns such as Bulgari and LVMH Italia’s sustainable development manager Eleonora Rizzuto. Panellists also spoke about efforts made by the diamond industry to uphold human rights and quality of life, especially for women and children.
