GJEPC delegation meets Finance Minister, hosts government officials in Udupi

A delegation of the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council met with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman last week to discuss the jewellery industry as the Union Government focuses on the sector.

Led by GJEPC chairman Pramod Kumar Agrawal, a delegation from the organisation met with the Minster of Finance to present a list of suggested policy changes, the GJEPC announced on its website. With the aim of boosting growth in the jewellery industry, the delegation put forward ideas about how to increase each of doing business and promote exports.
 
The GJEPC’s delegation included the Coloured Gemstones Panel Committee’s convenor Vijay Kedia and the Silver Jewellery Panel’s convenor Ram Babu Gupta among others. The meeting shows the government’s increased focus on the industry.

A government delegation from the Ministry of Finance also recently visited the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery in Udupi to discuss the development and functioning of the institute, according to the GJEPC. The IIGJ and GJEPC presented the officials with a report on the institute’s activities for review.
 
The Ministry of Finance delegation included the Finance Minister’s secretary Vipul Bansal and second secretary Vivek. Local administrators including assistant district commissioner for Udupi District Sadashiv Prabhu also took part in the meeting. The president of the Udupi Jewellers Association, Nagaraj Acharya and chairman of the Karnataka Jewellers Federation Jaya Acharya were also present.
