GJEPC celebrates industry and awards funds at 'Jewellers for Hope' charity event

The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council held charity event ‘Jewellers for Hope’ on the evening of September 15 and congratulated India’s Tokyo Olympic 2020 champions and celebrated the industry at large.

Following the first day of trade show India International Jewellery Show, the GJEPC held a charity gala where it awarded this year’s charitable funds to the charitable trust Udayan Care and SDA-Diamond Hospital & Medical Research Centre, the GJEPC announced on its website. Jewellery industry leaders gathered together to discuss corporate social responsibility initiatives and achievements over the course of the evening. 
 
Jewellers for Hope also congratulated several of India’s recent Tokyo Olympic 2020 champions by awarding them with brooches designed by the winner of the GJEPC’s annual design competition ‘Artisan Awards 2021’. Olympians Rupinder Pal Singh, Bhavina Patel, and Krishna Nagar were celebrated at the event and given the brooch as a token of appreciation. 

The industry also got together to discuss CSR over the course of the pandemic.

“The gem and jewellery industry has been at the forefront in the fight against the Covid-19,” said GJEPC chairman, Colin Shah, at the event. “During the pandemic, GJEPC initiated the Covid fund for karigars which was transferred in the form of Direct Benefit Transfer into the bank accounts of daily wage workers of the gem and jewellery industry. GJEPC also contributed a substantial amount to PM Cares Fund, to support the country’s efforts to combat the pandemic and provide relief measures.”
 
“GJEPC has come up with Swasthya Ratna medical insurance policy for the employees of member companies that has covered seven lakh lives till date,” said Shah. “Swasthya Kosh fund pays 75% of the health insurance premium of contracted and unorganised workforce in the sector.”
