GIA India recently trained a batch of 19 female students on “SWIFT Jewellery Design” with a five-day skill-enhancement course from August 18 to 22, The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council announced on its website. The programme was supported by the GIA Endowment Fund and was part of its initiative to work towards female empowerment in the often male-dominated gem and diamond industry.

“GIA’s courses offer relevant hands-on education for those seeking to enter the global gem and jewellery industry,” said Nirupa Bhatt, the GIA’s managing director for India and the Middle East, as reported by the GJEPC.

“MKSSS is doing excellent work in educating girls and young women in India. Through GIA’s endowment fund, we were able to bring GIA’s world-class skill enhancement training programmes to women looking to make a mark in the industry… We’re thankful for the support of MKSSS and work closely with them towards educating women and helping them become self-reliant.”

GIA India is based in Bandra, Mumbai, and the organisation was first established in 1931 in the US. The institute works to ensure quality and standardisation in the gem and diamond industry through education, research, laboratory services, and instrument development.
