Future Group CEO for small format stores Ramesh Menon resigns

Ramesh Menon has resigned from his role as Future Group’s CEO of small format stores and his responsibilities will be taken over by Dhananjay Sengupta, the business’ CEO for North Zone.

Future Group released an internal office circular on January 15 stating that Menon has resigned and that Sengupta will take over his responsibilities, as reported by ET Bureau. Sengupta, who has been with Future Group since 2006, will officially step into his new role come February, the circular read.

Menon joined Future Group in January 2018 after the business’ acquisition of Hypercity Retail in 2017 where he was previously CEO. In his Future Group role, Menon was responsible for four brands, all neighbourhood stores.

Menon managed Easy Day, Nilgiris, Heritage, and Food World collectively have 1,100 stores across India. Menon had stated on his LinkedIn profile that the combined stores had a Rs 2,000 crore ($300.63 million) turnover and he was tasked with expanding the brands to create a network of 10,000 stores in the coming five years and expanding the stores’ omni-channel capabilities.

The circular did not mention Menon’s future employment plans. With an MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur, Menon has also previously worked for Reliance Communications, leading wireless operations.
