Freakins’ new collaborative project sees up-and-coming artists from across India create hand painted and printed garments for the brand, it announced on Facebook. Artists collaborating with the fashion brand will get a percentage of each sale, according to Freakins, and shoppers will have the chance to purchase unique items such as hand-painted jeans and denim jackets.

“Freakins Art is an initiative to build a community within the art and fashion industry and give artists an opportunity to showcase their designs,” Freakins co-founder and CEO Shaan Shah told Indo-Asian News Service. “Artists from all over India have been given this platform to translate their craft on our products and monetise their work.”

The brand has collaborated with 22 artists in its first launch and plans to collaborate with many more. The initiative is designed to give an, “opportunity to upcoming artists from all over India to showcase their talent and also make profits from it,” according to Shah.

“Loved working on this collaboration with Freakins,” said collaborating artist Nikita Sagar about her experience with the brand. “It opened more doors and helped me to reach out to more number of people by making wearable art more accessible. The entire process of designing and picking each item while keeping in mind the ongoing trends was a learning experience on its own.”
