Fossil launches Gen 5 smartwatches in India
Watchmaker Fossil has launched the ‘Gen 5’ touchscreen smartwatch range in the Indian market, as it looks to make deeper inroads in the technical watch segment in India.
Amid a slowdown in the international market, the U.S.-based brand is betting big on India for growth and eyeing a significant share of the smartwatch market in the country.
For the first quarter, Fossil Group’s sales in Asia had increased with strong performances in countries like China, India, Hong Kong, and South Korea. With the launch of its new smartwatches, Fossil expects its sales in India to increase further in the coming quarters.
The Gen 5 range comes in a 44mm case size with features like speakers, smart battery modes, and extra storage space. The smartwatch will be available in colour combinations of black, smoke, and rose gold with endless strap options.
Commenting on the launch of Gen 5, Johnson Verghese managing director Fossil India in a statement said: “There has been focus on the integration of health and wellness with wearable technology for some time now and at Fossil, we see a great opportunity to provide a smartwatch for the design-conscious consumer looking for a perfect blend of style and utility.
“Like the consumer, we are also constantly evolving and as a direct outcome, we bring to you the Gen5, which offers added speaker functionality along with our first-ever proprietary apps that extend battery life and greater iPhone compatibility,” he added.
The smartwatch has been priced at Rs 22,995 ($305) and will be available on Fossil’s website, retail stores, and other partner channels across India.
