Footwear brand Birkenstock enters the Indian market
German footwear brand Birkenstock has taken the online route for its India entry and will start selling its popular footwear via the brand’s new website in the country.
Birkenstock sees huge potential for growth in the Indian market and expects it to be one of the five most important markets for the brand within the next few years.
The company will also be partnering with other e-commerce platforms and open brand outlets in the coming year. The first offline store is scheduled to open early next year in the Delhi-NCR region.
"It's precisely the right time for us to enter the Indian market. A booming, brand-compatible retail environment meets strong consumer demand for genuine quality," in a statement said Oliver Reichert, CEO of the Birkenstock Group.
"We expect India to become one of the five most important markets for Birkenstock within the next few years since we offer the perfect products for the current spirit of the times and lifestyle in this country."
Birkenstock has set up an India entity which will serve as a wholesaler and distributor of the brand to different retail store partners in India. The brand will import all shoes from the company’s manufacturing facilities in Germany.
