Flipkart tightens returns policy for clothing and lifestyle goods on fraud suspicions
E-commerce major Flipkart has decided to give its customers less time to return fashion and lifestyle goods after suspecting fraudulent orders.
“To reduce these fraudulent activities and to save you from such fraud buyers, the return/replacement policy for the below list of verticals is being changed from 30 days to 10 days,” Flipkart told its merchants in a communication reviewed by the Times of India. “This change has been done to protect your interest and to save you from fraudulent returns.”
Previously, fashion and lifestyle goods were the only product categories that allowed customers a 30 day period to return unwanted items whilst other products allowed only 10 days following a policy change around four years ago. Flipkart has concerns that customers are buying items such as winter clothing and returning them after being used instead of due to defects, TNN reported. The new policy covers winter wear among other apparel and accessories.
“To ensure that we continue to protect the interests of lakhs of sellers, especially small businesses, on our platform, we have altered the time frame of our return/replacement policy for certain lifestyle categories in line with industry best practices,” a Flipkart spokesperson confirmed the development to TNN. “This will minimise the possibilities of misuse and also drive greater efficiencies that will eventually help our sellers and bring a wide and affordable selection of products to millions of customers on our platform.”
