Flipkart sees saree sales flourish online

Flipkart has seen high sales of sarees from across India and has developed a dedicated storefront for the traditional garment. The e-commerce giant has seen the highest saree sales from West Bengal and Odisha.

India is home to over 60 ethnic and artisanal saree weaves and Flipkart is seeing sales of the garment flourish online, the business announced in a press release on January 24. Following West Bengal and Odisha, Flipkart’s highest saree sales come from cities including Bengaluru, New Delhi, and Hyderabad. The most popular saree colours have been pink and red and the main influence on styles is Bollywood. 
 
“As seasons change, so do people's choices in fashion, but one that remains eternal for most is the evergreen saree,” said Flipkart Fashion’s senior director Abhishek Maloo in s press release. “Our approach has always been focused on offering an inclusive fashion shopping experience and sarees continue to be a top choice for fashion shoppers on Flipkart. At present, we have 10 lakh plus unique saree choices available for every kind of customer - from traditional weaves to modern celebrity-inspired designs. This will continue to be a growth driver for our business and we always aim to be one step ahead in catering to a wide variety of fashion needs.”

Flipkart counts over 10 lakh sarees in its portfolio and the main saree buying seasons on the platform ate Diwali, Chhath Puja, Karvachauth, Navratri, wedding seasons, and the platforms ‘Big Billion Days’ flagship sale event. During its most recent Big Billion Days online sale, Flipkart reported one saree bought every minute to total 11,600 kilometres of fabric.
