Flipkart’s PhonePe names Aamir Khan as its brand ambassador

Flipkart owned payments platform PhonePe has named Bollywood actor Aamir Khan as its brand ambassador for the Indian market.

The digital payments firm will be launching a series of new television ads featuring Aamir Khan during the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
 
PhonePe is looking to cash in of Khan’s popularity to further increase its customer base in the country and hoping for a rise in digital transactions on its platform.

PhonePe is one of India’s leading digital payments companies with over 100 million users and had recently crossed 1 billion digital payment transactions.
 
Commenting on the announcement, Sameer Nigam, CEO and founder of PhonePe in a statement said: “Aamir has been instrumental in creating awareness about many important social issues in India. His name is synonymous with sincerity, hard work and dedication to his craft. These are values that are completely in sync with PhonePe’s ethos of trust, security, and reliability, therefore we felt that Aamir is the perfect brand ambassador for our company as we look to introduce digital payments to a billion Indians.” 
 
Talking about his association with PhonePe, Khan added, “PhonePe stands for innovation and trust and has been instrumental in simplifying digital payments for millions of Indians in a very short span of time. I have closely been following PhonePe’s amazing journey and am delighted to be a part of their phenomenal growth trajectory.”
 
Flipkart has been investing heavily in its payments unit to compete with digital payments biggies like Paytm, Mobikwik, and others.
