Flipkart’s BBD sale registers 50% new customers

Flipkart’s Big Billion Days festive sale event brought the e-commerce giant 50% new customer growth compared to last year and growth in Tier 2 and 3 towns. Fashion sales in particular increased this year.

Flipkart recorded 70 billion views of its e-commerce platform during its six-day Big Billion Days sales event, Indo-Asian News Service reported. The business not only witnessed 50% year-on-year new customer growth, it also saw a large increase in rural customers with 50% of Flipkart Plus shoppers hailing from smaller towns. Tier 3 customers also increased by 100% year-on-year.

"Among multi-platform e-commerce sellers, the wallet share seen on Flipkart by sellers was 70%, while for fashion and home, our wallet share has hit as high as 80%," said Flipkart in a statement, reported by Indo-Asian News Service.

Sales of fashion items did particularly well this sale season and Flipkart recorded 70% growth in apparel and accessory sales compared to its 2018 sale. Female customers made up 45% of total fashion sales in terms of units sold. 

"Fifteen apparels, seven shoes and five accessories were sold every second during the sale period,” said the business.

“In the Flipkart fashion portfolio, 20 brands sold more than 1 lakh units this time. The Flipkart fashion originals portfolio sales grew 100% in the sale period."
